15 Of The Best Beach Sunset Locations In The World

June 6, 2019

It’s a colorful free show that plays out every night. Sunsets happen everywhere, and every day. It doesn’t matter whether you’re traveling on a budget or not and where in the world you are. You can be standing on the top of a mountain or sitting in the sand on a stunning beach. You can be in the middle of the desert or in front of an ancient temple.

Sunsets have always felt magical to me and make the perfect ending to a long day. Over the past 7 years of travel, I’ve watched daylight turn to dusk many times. And what I loved most about it: there were not two sunsets that were entirely alike.

Here’s a collection of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen. May this list one day reach 1000 best sunsets! 🙂

Leluvia, Fiji

Leleuvia Sunset

The tiny island of Leleuvia in the south-west of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu is perfectly located for gorgeous sunsets. Enjoy a cold Fiji Bitter as the sun’s rays turn the sky and water into an orange and pink light show and perhaps take some silhouette photos on the beach.

The Best Daytime Activities

  • Swim in the crystal clear waters around the island
  • Climb a palm tree and take some unforgettable photos
  • Participate in a Kava ceremony with the resort staff

Sipalay, Philippines

Sugar Beach Sunset

There’s no bad place to view the sunset in the Philippines, but you’ll make the memory of a lifetime if you can watch the sun dip low into the crystal clear water from a sun chair or hammock in one of the most off-the-beaten-path bays in Negros.

The Best Daytime Activities

  • Swim in the shallow waters of Sugar Beach
  • Go on an unforgettable snorkeling or even scuba diving adventure in the Sulu Sea
  • Check out the one and only bar built on the cliffs at the very end of Sugar Beach

Whether you’re standing with your feet in the sand or sipping a cold San Miguel on Siquijor’s Solangon Beach, there are many ways to watch the sun drop into the ocean against the backdrop of Negros’ dark, volcanic mountain landscape.

Les Trois-Ilets, Martinique

Anse a l'Ane Sunset

Take in the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean at Anse-à-l’Ane beach while sipping a Ti Punch or Lorraine beer at one of the cute local beach bars.

Both locals and tourists in Pointe-du-Bout gather at the beach of Anse-Mitan each night to see the sun dip into the Atlantic Ocean. For a more natural sunset, sit on one of the rocks near Point-du-Bout’s small port and soak up the last sun rays without anyone around.

The Best Daytime Activities

  • See incredible marine life while scuba diving off the coast of Anse a l’Ane
  • Find hidden beaches while sea kayaking along the coast of Anse Noire
  • Take day trips to other famous places in Martinique

  • Find underwater volcanoes while scuba diving off the coast of Y
  • Taste local rum at X distillery
  • Climb Mount Soufriere, the highest mountain (volcano) on the island of Guadeloupe

Toronto, Canada

Sunset Toronto

Probably one of the most perfect places to watch the sunset in Toronto: Toronto Islands, particularly Ward’s Island. Why? Because Ward’s Island offers some of the best skyline views of TO, which means you’ll be able to see the sky turn purple while snapping great photos of the unmistakable silhouette of Toronto’s skyline.

  • Visit the observation deck on top of the CN Tower
  • Explore Toronto Island
  • Take a day trip to see the famous Niagara Falls

In the late afternoon, when temperatures start to cool down a little, head to Side harbor where you’ll find the recreated colonnade of the Temple of Athena shine in the last sun rays of the day. Lympstone, England

Sunset Lympstone

No doubt England’s cliff coast offers impressive sunset views. I happened to see one of the most epic sunsets while traveling around Devon. I spent a few days in the village of Lympstone near Exmouth in the south of Devon. The cliffs near Lympstone’s harbor were undoubtedly a perfect spot to see the sun paint the sky in a dazzling array of pink and orange.

The Best Daytime Activities

  • Go sightseeing in nearby Exeter
  • Stroll along the seafront in Exmouth
  • Explore Devon’s coastal areas and national parks on several day trips

Where To Stay In Lympstone

 Special Tip: Kwa Tuli, Botswana

African Sunset

Not a beach location, yet one of the most impressive places to watch the sunset: the African bush.

If you’ve always dreamed of experiencing an intense sunset out in the wild, head to Botswana. Take a safari at sunset to watch as the slow descent of the sun turn the beatiful savannah and African landscape gold. If you’re lucky, you’ll even see an elephant or giraffe – and there’s your exceptional African sunset photo.
